Olivia Taylor Dudley, Summer Bishil and Hale Appleman channel elderly goths reminiscing about the early days of their gloomy subculture. (1:19)

Most of us who went

through the Manic Panic, JNCO

phase eventually grew out of

that black nail polish cocoon

into a beautiful butterfly with

sensible shoes and a job.

But some brave, lost souls

refuse to give up their

lifestyle, old age be damned.

"Meet the Elderly Woman Who Will

Not Stop Being Goth, No Matter

What Anyone Says."

First of all, that is not an

elderly Goth.

At most, she graduated high

school in, like, 1999 with

honors in, like, Dashboard

Confessional or something.

This... This is an elderly Goth.

(cheers and applause)

Living the dream.

The Goth subculture began around

the 1970s or so, meaning there

could be Goths in their late 60s

still wandering around a parking

garage, struggling to find their

Geo Metro.

So, magicians, as an old person

who was there from the

beginning, please tell us what

it meant to be Goth back in your

day.

Olivia.

>> I remember when I used to

have to walk 15 miles up the

hill in the snow just to tell my

dad to fuck himself.

>> HARDWICK: Yes, yes, points.

Points. Very good.

Very good.

He doesn't understand you.

He doesn't understand you.

Hale.

your age, The Smiths were just a

nice couple we played bridge

with.

>> HARDWICK: Yes, points.

Points. Absolutely.

Absolutely.
