We're here with Dev Hynes, aka Blood Orange.

-Thank you so much for beinghere. -Oh, man. Thank you.

-Thank you for having me.-Uh, you-you've been hailed

as, uh, you know, one of the most eclectic voices

of this generation. You writepop music with popular artists

such as Solange and so on.But your-your own music has a...

-has a different style to it,a different flair, -Mmm.

and a message behind it. So manyof the songs on the album

are about, you know, policeshootings or police brutality.

I mean, the question is why.It seems obvious.

-Why in music? -Um, I basicallyrealized that music is, um...

it's the-the medium that...and the language that is

-most natural for me.-Yeah.

So experiencing this stuffand living here

and going through all of it,that was just the...

the natural, um, medicationI was using

to just kind of express myself.

So I-I wasn'teven particularly aware

if a lot of this stuff,if it would be released

-or if I'd put it out.It was just what... -Yeah.

the only way I could, like, get through things, you know?

When you're writing music, you're writing these songs

that are really strong, and thenyou go and you write pop music

with pop musicians.Do you ever, like,

try to slip it into their music, you know?

Just, like, throw in a littlething? ♪ And then he got shot

-No, no? -People used to do thatback in the day.

-They... People used to do a lotof those tricks. -Yeah.

I mean, to be honest, I-I justkind of haven't even written

any pop music recently. But I'm sure... but I'm sure...

So you're trying to stay awayfrom it basically.

But... No, but I'm surethat if I did, I...

it would... if I was writingthe lyrics, it-it would...

-it would come out.-I'm looking forward to that.

-Me, too. Me, too.-I'm gonna wait for the song.

It's gonna be hot. Dev Hynes, everybody, one more time.
